Awardees from the SVL/Courtney Walsh Cricket Camp: L-R Romaine Morris, Ramaal Lewis, Robert Stewart, Odane McCatty and Hakeem Wright

The first of this, the fourth staging of the Supreme Ventures sponsored Courtney Walsh Cricket Camps, drew to a close yesterday with a full day of activities at the camp venue, St. Elizabeth Technical High School.

The two day match, designed to give the young cricketers "time in the middle" ended in a draw where the stand-outs were the spin-bowlers.

SCORES:

Ramaal Lewis XI: 127 (Mark Parchment 36; Leroy Lugg 5-18, Rashane Hamilton 3-53) and 38-4 (Leroy Lugg 3-2)

Odane McCatty XI: 140 (Odain McCatty 61; Hakeem Wright 5-47, Ramaal Lewis 4-34)

Of note is that the successful wicket-takers were all spinners and represented the fascinating variety of that art of bowling - the off-spinner (Lewis), the leg-spinners (Lugg & Hamilton) and the slow left-armer (Wright).

Following the match, sectional awards for performance over the week-long residential camp were presented by Hon. Ambassador Courtney Walsh and Carlene Edwards, Senior Corporate Communications Officer of Supreme Ventures Limited.

  • Best Wicketkeeper         - Romaine Morris
  • Best Fielder                   - Ramaal Lewis

During the lunch break in keeping with the "Beyond the Boundary" section of the camps Mr. Garfield Ellis, Commercial & Education Director of the Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission (JADCO) gave a presentation to the twenty camp invitees on "Drug Abuse & Doping".

This, the first of this year's camps, concludes on Wednesday with a boat trip on the Black River courtesy of long-time cricket aficionado, Dr. Donovan Bennett, of Safari Tours.
