David Bernard Jnr. celebrates his century against Ireland in the opening match of the SVSB Jamaica Cricket Festival at Chedwin Park

The inaugural Supreme Ventures Sports Betting (SVSB) Jamaica Cricket Festival got off to an exciting start on Saturday at Chedwin Park.

The opening match of the festival, a 3-day affair, is being contested between Jamaica and Ireland.  Tamar Lambert - Captain of Jamaica’s team, won the toss and chose to bat. The decision paid off as Jamaica posted a sizeable 339 all out, with David Bernard Jr. scoring a brilliant 102, skipper Lambert 68 and Danza Hyatt hitting 55.

Ireland’s Peter Connell took 4 - 77 runs while Paul Sterling got 2 - 45 runs.

During the promotional activities conducted on the day by the Festival’s title sponsor, Supreme Ventures Sports Betting, through its JUSTBET brand, several lucky spectators walked away with gift packages. Among them were Lyndon Cole, Owen Harrison, Reynaldo Clarke and Dellese Douglas, who were all winners during the lunch and tea-time promotions.

In commenting on the first day of activities, Carlene Edwards – Senior Corporate Communications Officer of Supreme Ventures said that “It was a great day of cricket. The fans who came out enjoyed the action, especially the batting of the Jamaica team, and we’re looking forward to a bigger audience for the remainder of the game, and for the remainder of the Festival. With so much talent on display, especially when the West Indies bow into action, we are expecting some exciting action on the field, and we’re encouraging all Jamaicans to come out and support the teams, take part in the games and activities, win some prizes, and of course, enjoy the cricket!”

One of the MAJOR attractions of the festival, is the Justbet “Win a Million” Promotion, in which patrons who purchase tickets to any of the matches in the festival, from April 7 through to the end of the tournament on April 18 (which will be priced at $1,000 per day), stand a chance of winning a share of a one million dollar jackpot, simply by coming to the matches and showing their ticket at the gate.

On each of those match days (April 7, 8, 10, 11, 13, 15, 17 & 18), fans will be asked to fill out and submit an entry form, which will give them a chance of winning $50,000 on each of those match days, as well as a grand prize of $600,000 at the final match on the 18th.

“This is one way in which we wanted to inject some added excitement into the festival, and provide an incentive to bring fans out to the matches,” Edwards said. “We urge all the fans to buy their tickets and come out to the matches and try to win some cash!”

The Supreme Ventures Sports Betting Jamaica Cricket Festival moves to Kaiser Sports Club in Discovery Bay for two 50 over matches on April 7 and 8, before shifting to the Trelawny Multi-Purpose Stadium for four twenty20 encounters on April 10, 11. Sabina Park then takes centre stage on April 13, 15, 17 and 18, with two official One-day International and two more Twenty20 matches.

On January 26, 2010 Supreme Ventures Limited created history when avid sports loving Jamaican fans were able to place wagers on their favourite international sports, through the new fixed-odds sports betting game, JustBet.  The two official One day Internationals in the festival (April 13 and 15 matches at Sabina Park, featuring the West Indies vs. Canada and the West Indies vs. Ireland), will be available for betting through JustBet, as will all matches in the ICC World Twenty20, which will of course feature two of the festival’s competing teams, West Indies and Ireland – who will interestingly enough, be competing in the same group at that Tournament, to be held from April 30 to May 16.
