2010 will mark yet another successful year for the Jamaica Netball Association (JNA), as they secured an increase in sponsorship for its Division 'A' and 'C' Leagues from longstanding sponsor Supreme Ventures Limited (SVL).
The announcement was made today at the Opening Ceremony & Rally for the Supreme Ventures Division 'A' and 'C' Leagues, held at the National Indoor Sports Centre (NISC).
SVL has been the title sponsor of the JNA Division 'A' and 'C' Leagues for the past 8 years. The company's sponsorship for this year's competition is a whopping $3.65M, up from $2.6M in 2009. The sponsorship amount will be shared for both leagues, that is, Division 'A' is set to receive $2.3M and Division 'C' - $1.365M.
In delivering the sponsor's remark, Sonia Davidson, Vice President - Group Corporate Communications of SVL said that, "in addition to the $3.65M sponsorship, SVL will also offer 6 scholarships (3 each to Division A and C) to participants valued at $400,000, up from $300,000 last year. These scholarships will be presented to eligible young women participating in the competition and who are attending an approved educational institution in Jamaica.
Davidson further explained that the scholarships which will be on offer for Division 'A' are: $100,000 to a member of the winning team; $60,000 to a member of the second placed team and $40,000 to a member of the third placed team. In Division C: $90,000 to a member of the winning team; $60,000 to a member of the second placed team and $50,000 to a member of the third placed team. This she said brings SVL's total contribution to Netball in 2010 to over $4M."
Theda King, Council Member of the JNA, in delivering the speech on behalf of JNA's President, Marva Bernard, said that "the JNA was extremely grateful for SVL's continued partnership." She said that "the JNA has taken special note of the increased sponsorship in spite of the recession and has vowed to increase the prize monies that will be on offer to the clubs."
King also issued a charge to the coaches, to use the mantra of positive reinforcement to their players. She also implored the players to show respect for each other, self, the leagues officials and umpires.
SVL/JNA Division 'A' and 'C' Leagues have over the years resulted in competitive matches and this year will be no different, as the leagues have a record total number of 33 teams participating.
13 Teams will participate in Division 'A', while 20 teams will compete in Division 'C'.
The SVL/JNA Division 'C' league will officially 'shoot' off on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 with 8 sets of games while the SVL/JNA Division's 'C' league will commence on Thursday, February 25 with 6 sets of matches.
