Kingston, Jamaica, October 11 - Fans of the track, punters and hardcore horseracing enthusiasts will be treated to the 12th annual Supreme Ventures Limited Jamaica 2-Year-Old Horse Racing Series, starting on Heroes Weekend on October 15 with the Cash Pot Race Day at Caymanas Park. The event will see two other events completing the Series – the Pick 3 Race Day on November 26 and the Supreme Ventures Race Day on December 27.
This year, the Series kicked off with launch event at the Jamaica Pegasus on October 11 that saw the gaming company giving well-deserved recognition to the owners, trainers and jockeys who have excelled in the sport of kings, especially those who have made their mark during the racing series’ 12 year run.
Among those honoured was Ruth Hussey, awarded for being the most successful owner over the Series’ 11 year history. Her efforts and participation with horses sporting her popular white silks and blue horseshoes, has placed her atop the list of owners with four wins. Her son, champion jockey, Charles “Charlie” Hussey accepted the award on her behalf.
Fifteen-time Champion Trainer, Wayne DaCosta O.D. was given the award for ‘winningest’ trainer having trained 10 winners in the Series.
Top flight reins man and two time Champion Jockey Shane Ellis, earned the title of ‘winningest’ jockey with five victories during the very competitive 11 year history of the Supreme Ventures Limited 2 Year-Old Triple Series.
And not to be outdone, veteran groomsman, Byron Murray received an award for his contribution to the stables, especially for his handling of the only horse to win all three events in the Series and the $1 million bonus, Princess Popstar.
According to Paul Hoo, Chairman of Supreme Ventures, “We are really very proud of the 2 Year Old Series. It’s a signature event for SVL in that it is unique and innovative as the only 2 Year Old Series that we know of anywhere racing is done worldwide. The event was borne out of discussions with TOBA [Thoroughbred Breeders Association] over 12 years ago and forms a big part of our commitment to providing good entertainment for those who love the sport of kings, and a good opportunity for those who work in the industry to enjoy fierce, yet healthy competition, coupled with the opportunity to earn.”
The main feature of the Cash Pot Race Day on October 15 is the 1200M Cash Pot “Only One for Me” Trophy Race which will have an attractive purse of $2.95 million. The action continues with the Pick 3 Race Day on November 26, 2016 when the Pick-3 Super Challenge Trophy and a purse of $3.6 million will be up for grabs, and culminates with the Supreme Ventures Race Day on December 27, 2016 where a $1 million bonus will go to the owner who has won all three race days.
The event will also feature several on the ground activities, including on-site SVL lottery terminals, big ticket promotions and social media contests. SVL will bring back the popular Supreme Ventures Triple Entry Promotion, ‘Dip in the Cash Pot’ and the lucky wheel of fortune.
